Uneasy Lies the Head
Henry Tudor spends much of his youth in exile, a distant Lancastrian claimant whose survival depends on the politics of Brittany, France and England. In 1485 he returns with a small army, defeats Richard III at Bosworth and becomes Henry VII, but victory on the battlefield does not make his hold on the crown secure.
His marriage to Elizabeth of York is intended to unite rival dynastic claims, yet pretenders, rebellions and the memory of civil war continue to threaten the new regime. The novel follows the couple as political necessity becomes family life and as Henry tries to turn a disputed conquest into a dynasty capable of surviving him.
