The Mowbray Chronicles

The Mowbray Chronicles follow a fictional branch of the English Mowbray family from the later Hundred Years’ War through the reigns of Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V. Argyle Mowbray’s murder inquiry begins the numbered sequence at Richard’s divided court, but the dynasty’s concealed origins are established in Shield of Blood through the career of the French-born knight Edmund La Fontaine.

Across the series, personal secrets repeatedly intersect with royal succession, political exile, war in Wales, Scandinavian court politics and intelligence work. The focus gradually passes from Argyle to the younger Edmund Mowbray and the imprisoned spymaster Thom, showing how bargains made by one generation constrain the next. Shield of Blood is retained as prequel 0.5; the six numbered novels remain in publication order and Deeds of Deceit closes the sequence.
