Prometheus

Prometheus was a Titan in Greek myth who gives fire to humanity and suffers punishment from Zeus. Ancient poets use his conflict with divine authority to examine technology, foresight and the price of helping humankind.

In Aeschylus’s Prometheus Bound and Other Plays, this collection brings together four plays traditionally associated with Aeschylus: Prometheus Bound, The Suppliants, Seven Against Thebes and The Persians. In Hesiod’s Complete Works of Hesiod, the poems describe the genealogy of the gods, the struggle for divine order, the myth of Prometheus and Pandora, and the harsh moral economy of labour, justice and farming life. Other novels featuring Prometheus include Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
