60 BCE–17
Livy was a Roman historian of the Augustan age. His monumental history traced Rome from legendary foundation to his own period, presenting episodes of war, civic virtue, political conflict and moral decline.
In non-fiction, Livy is discussed in Livy’s Hannibal’s War, Livy’s History of Rome, and Livy’s The Rise of Rome. In Livy’s Hannibal’s War, Livy treats the war as a test of Roman endurance, discipline and political cohesion under extreme pressure.
