John Graham, 1st Viscount Dundee

John Graham of Claverhouse was a Scottish soldier, royal officer and Jacobite commander known as Bonnie Dundee. He enforced royal policy against Covenanters and led the Jacobite rising of 1689 until his death at Killiecrankie.

Bonnie Dundee follows his career through the fictional servant Hugh Herriot, combining household loyalty with political conflict. Claverhouse’s commands, Jacobite leadership and death are historical; Hugh’s service and viewpoint are fictional.
