Ostrogothic Kingdom
493–553 CE
Theodoric established the Ostrogothic Kingdom after defeating Odoacer in 493. His government combined Gothic military power with Roman civil administration and presented itself as a continuation of order in Italy.
The kingdom included Italy and at times exercised influence across the western Mediterranean and Balkans. Religious and political distinctions remained between the Arian Gothic elite and the largely Nicene Roman population.
