The Wise Woman

In 1535 the dissolution of religious houses forces the novice Alys from her convent and back to the isolated household of Morach, the healer who raised her. Alys later enters the castle of Lord Hugh and becomes entangled with his married son, Hugo.

Caught between Catholic faith, new religious authority and her own desire for security and power, Alys turns to charms and attempted witchcraft. The methods she uses against her rivals become increasingly destructive in a society where heresy and magic can both lead to death.
