Korean War traces the conflict from the division of Korea after the Second World War to the North Korean invasion of 1950 and the international war that followed. It covers the intervention of United Nations forces led by the United States, China’s entry into the war and the seesaw campaigns before the front stabilised. The book concludes with the 1953 armistice and the political and human consequences of a war that left the peninsula divided.
The armistice ends large-scale fighting without producing a peace settlement, leaving many of the conflict’s political questions unresolved. The demilitarised zone fixes a military boundary close to the original division while millions of civilians remain displaced or separated. The book therefore treats 1953 as a ceasefire rather than a simple conclusion and connects the war directly to the continuing security structure of East Asia.
