100 Days to Victory

Saul David reconstructs the First World War through one hundred selected days, beginning with the crisis that followed the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and ending with the collapse of the Central Powers in 1918. The chronological snapshots move between governments, headquarters, trenches, ships, aircraft and civilian communities, showing how decisions made on a single day could redirect an entire campaign.

The book ranges across the Western and Eastern fronts, Gallipoli, the Middle East, the war at sea and the home fronts. Political leaders and senior commanders appear beside soldiers, nurses, workers and families, including members of David’s own family. The method makes the conflict both global and personal while explaining how mobilisation, attrition, industrial capacity and coalition warfare eventually produced Allied victory.
