Uri Dushy

Uri Dushy is an Israeli multidisciplinary artist and author whose career has encompassed painting, mixed-media work, three-dimensional sculpture and large public installations. After more than forty years exhibiting internationally, he extended his interest in layered images, memory and storytelling into fiction. His books often connect artistic creation with identity, persecution and the recovery of experiences concealed by family silence. He has also written Creative Rush, a nonfiction guide to overcoming creative blocks and developing a more intuitive creative practice.

Dushy’s historical novels form the Art of Resistance series, which follows Jewish women and artists confronting Nazi occupation during the Second World War. The Girl in the Oil Painting moves between the Jewish community of Rhodes during the Holocaust and a later generation uncovering its suppressed history; The Librarian of Amsterdam concerns a librarian forging documents to rescue children from the Gestapo; and The Painter of Hidden Children follows a woman sheltering Jewish children in occupied France. The Ballerina of Paris, set in Paris in 1942, centres on a Jewish dancer performing under a concealed identity. A fifth novel, The Italian Photographer, is scheduled for publication in November 2026.
