Phase
Rise of the Ottoman Empire
1299–1453 CE
The Rise of the Ottoman Empire began in northwestern Anatolia and expanded through warfare, alliances and frontier politics. Ottoman rulers moved into the Balkans and built institutions that supported further conquest. By the fifteenth century, Constantinople was increasingly isolated.
This phase matters because it shows how a frontier power became an empire. It also connects Byzantine decline, Balkan kingdoms, Islamic warriors, Christian vassals and dynastic ambition. Fiction can follow soldiers, converts, hostages, princesses, monks, merchants and families living along an unstable frontier.
