Iron Age Britain

Iron Age Britain was not a single political society but a mosaic of communities whose economies centred on farming, livestock, exchange and skilled craft. Hillforts, enclosed settlements and regional material traditions changed substantially across the period.
Iron technology spread alongside distinctive metalwork, coinage in some regions and increasing contacts with continental Europe. Later written descriptions are partial and external, so archaeological evidence remains central to interpretation.
