War of the Sixth Coalition

1813–1814 CE

The War of the Sixth Coalition developed after the destruction of much of Napoleon’s army in Russia. Prussia joined Russia in 1813, followed by Austria, Sweden and other powers, while Britain continued its financial and military support for the coalition and Wellington advanced from the Iberian Peninsula.

The coalition defeated Napoleon decisively at Leipzig in October 1813 and invaded France early the following year. Paris fell in March 1814, Napoleon abdicated in April, and the Bourbon monarchy was restored while he was sent into exile on Elba.
