Virgil was a Roman poet of the Augustan age and author of the Aeneid. His epic links the fall of Troy to the legendary origins of Rome while reflecting on civil war, sacrifice and the human costs of imperial destiny.

Virgil was born in Andes and died in Brindisi. Virgil’s earlier Eclogues and Georgics established his reputation before the Aeneid, composed under Augustus; the epic was left unfinished at his death but quickly became a central text of Roman education.

In Virgil’s The Aeneid, The Aeneid is a Latin epic written by Virgil during the Augustan Age and centred on Aeneas, a Trojan prince who escapes the destruction of Troy.
