Hellenistic Epic and the Argonaut Myth

The Argonaut myth tells of Jason, Medea, the Argo and the search for the Golden Fleece. In the Hellenistic period Apollonius of Rhodes reshaped the story into a learned epic set across a wide mythic geography.
The setting matters because the Argonautica connects Homeric inheritance to Alexandrian scholarship and later Roman poetry. Its treatment of Medea, desire and travel influenced versions of the myth in tragedy and epic.
