The Tiger’s Last Roar

William Culpepper is serving in southern India as the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War draws British, Company and Mysorean forces toward open conflict. When a Company convoy disappears beyond Madras, Culpepper is drawn into a dangerous search through country where ambush, cavalry raids and political uncertainty make ordinary military orders difficult to carry out. The novel uses the campaign against Tipu Sultan to show Culpepper’s first serious test of independent command, placing the routines of supply, patrol and intelligence beside the larger struggle that ends at Seringapatam.
