The Queen’s Jewel
First published 2022
London, 1587. The execution of Mary, Queen of Scots has deepened the danger surrounding Elizabeth I, and Christopher Marlowe and Thomas Lewgar are drawn into a new intelligence problem involving Catholic conspirators, a disputed royal claim and the mysterious object known as the Queen’s Jewel.
Mary’s execution, the worsening Anglo-Spanish confrontation and Walsingham’s intelligence world are historical. Marlowe is historical but his role in this particular investigation is fictional, as are Lewgar and the central conspiracy. The novel turns the succession anxiety following Mary’s death into the second Christopher Marlowe spy thriller.
