The Maharajah’s General
Wounded after the Alma and stripped once again of a secure identity, Jack Lark seizes another dead officer’s name and travels to India. Exposure as a fraud forces him into the protection of the Maharajah of Sawadh, where survival depends on proving that the military knowledge learned in British ranks can be used just as effectively against them.
Set under East India Company rule in the years immediately before the uprising of 1857, the novel shifts the series from European battlefield warfare to the contested politics of princely India. Jack’s divided loyalties place him between British officers, Indian rulers and soldiers whose interests cannot be reduced to a simple imperial frontier.
