After Harfleur, Henry V leads a weakened English army towards Calais while a much larger French force closes the route. Robert Cooper and his archers must hold their place in a battle where mud, discipline and longbow fire may compensate for exhausted numbers. The story places the fictional company inside the preparations and close fighting of 25 October 1415.

Thomas Chaucer and Edward Fordham meanwhile pursue the French agent Reynard de Troyes through enemy-held territory. Their private contest mirrors the larger campaign, in which information and timing matter as much as courage. Foreman treats Agincourt as both triumph and catastrophe: the king wins the fame he sought, but the survivors measure victory against the friends, prisoners and enemies left dead on the field.
