King Philip’s War recounts the devastating conflict of 1675–1676 between New England colonies and a coalition of Native communities led in part by Metacom, known to colonists as King Philip. It traces disputes over land, sovereignty, law and the expanding power of English settlements.
The war spread rapidly through towns and frontier communities, producing severe losses on all sides and the destruction or displacement of many Indigenous societies. The book explains how colonial victory transformed the political balance of southern New England and left a long legacy of captivity, enslavement and contested memory.
