The Black Death
The Black Death examines the plague pandemic that swept through Europe, the Mediterranean and other parts of Eurasia in the mid-fourteenth century. It traces the disease’s spread along trade routes, the enormous mortality it caused and the medical and religious explanations offered by contemporaries. The book also considers the pandemic’s effects on labour, landholding, social relations and religious life, as well as the persecution and upheaval that accompanied the crisis.
