Kirov Trilogy

The Kirov Trilogy follows three generations connected with the fictional Kirov family against the splendour and violence of Imperial Russia. Beginning in 1803, the sequence moves from the Napoleonic invasion through the Crimean War to the First World War and the Russian Revolution, linking English heroines with a Russian dynasty whose fortunes rise and collapse with the empire itself.

Anna, Fleur and Emily each enter Russia as independent outsiders and confront a society at once cultivated, hierarchical and dangerous. Their romances are inseparable from war, political upheaval and questions of national belonging, while St Petersburg, Moscow, the Caucasus and Crimea provide a changing landscape for a century-long story of passion, loyalty, exile and survival.
