Empire of the Moghul

Empire of the Moghul traces six generations of the dynasty that ruled much of the Indian subcontinent, beginning with Babur’s struggle for survival in Central Asia and his conquest of northern India. The sequence continues through Humayun’s exile and restoration, Akbar’s expansion of imperial authority, and Jahangir’s increasingly divided court.

The later novels follow Shah Jahan’s grief, architectural ambition and fatal failure to control his sons, before concluding with Aurangzeb’s seizure of the Peacock Throne and long, isolating reign. Across the sextet, military conquest, religious policy, marriage and succession turn the history of the Mughal Empire into a dynastic saga in which every inheritance carries the possibility of civil war.
