Battle of the Alamo

Mexican forces under Antonio López de Santa Anna surrounded the former mission at San Antonio de Béxar in February 1836. The small Texian garrison included William B. Travis, James Bowie and Davy Crockett and resisted repeated demands for surrender.
The final assault on 6 March overwhelmed the defenders. The defeat became a powerful rallying symbol for the Texian rebellion, although the conflict also involved Mexican federalists, Tejano communities, settlers, slavery and competing claims to sovereignty.
This context supports fiction about the Texas Revolution, the siege itself, survivors and families whose later lives were shaped by the mythology and political consequences of the Alamo.
