Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison was an American inventor and businessman whose laboratories developed and commercialised technologies central to the modern electrical and media industries. His name became associated with the phonograph, practical incandescent-lighting systems, motion-picture technology and improvements in telegraphy and sound recording.

Edison built organised research laboratories at Menlo Park and West Orange and accumulated more than a thousand U.S. patents. His companies helped create the infrastructure of electric power, while many inventions credited to him were the products of large teams working within an industrial research system.
