Canterbury Tales Mysteries

The Canterbury Tales Mysteries use the pilgrimage framework associated with Geoffrey Chaucer. Travellers setting out from the Tabard Inn agree to exchange darker evening tales alongside their ordinary stories, and each volume gives a different pilgrim a mystery of murder, haunting, revenge or concealed guilt. The stories range across medieval England while the road to Canterbury remains the narrative frame.

The sequence treats supernatural claims as part of the period’s mental world without abandoning human motives and material evidence. Templars, hangmen, clerics, sorcerers and landed families appear in tales shaped by inheritance, war and religious belief. The pilgrims’ reactions create an additional layer of suspicion, because each storyteller brings private experience and an uncertain relationship to the truth.
