Victor Emmanuel II of Italy

1820–1878

Victor Emmanuel II was king of Sardinia and became the first king of a united Italy in 1861. Working with Cavour, Garibaldi and other nationalist forces, he presided over territorial expansion and constitutional monarchy, though unification remained incomplete until the annexation of Rome.

Victor Emmanuel II of Italy also held the offices or ranks of duke, monarch of Italy, King of Sardinia and Duke of Savoy, and Head of the House of Savoy. Victor Emmanuel II of Italy belonged to the House of Savoy and operated within Kingdom of Italy. Victor Emmanuel II of Italy was born in Turin and died in Rome.
