Great Syrian Revolt
1925–1927 CE
The Great Syrian Revolt began in the Jabal al-Druze region in 1925 and expanded into a wider challenge to French mandatory authority. Rebel forces drew support from several communities and demanded independence and political unity.
French forces responded with major military operations and bombardment, including attacks on Damascus. The revolt was suppressed by 1927 but became an important symbol of anti-colonial nationalism and left extensive civilian and psychological damage.
In Out of the Ashes, Jean-Michel Langelier carries trauma from the revolt to Alaska.
