Valens

The Valens stories follow Aelius Valens and his volatile companion Rigonorix across the northern frontier of Roman Britain. Beginning with a snowbound fort and expanding into an investigation of attacks on imperial supplies, the series combines frontier adventure with mystery and survival.

Set during the reign of Antoninus Pius, the novels show Hadrian’s Wall as a working military zone inhabited by soldiers, civilians, traders and displaced communities rather than a static monument. Valens must read people and terrain quickly, because local crimes can conceal threats with consequences for the whole province.
