The Frontier of Rome series begins with Hadrian’s Eagles, set after the disappearance of the Ninth Legion Hispana. Felix Appius Julianus takes command of the Sixth Legion Victrix while Valerius Silvanus helps absorb survivors from the defeated formation. Their task is inseparable from Hadrian’s decision to abandon further expansion and establish a defensible frontier across northern Britain.

The construction of Hadrian’s Wall divides tribal territory and forces soldiers already marked by catastrophe to confront resistance, memory and the limits of Roman control.
