Ian Ross’s de Norton Trilogy follows the fictional Adam de Norton through the Second Barons’ War, from the crisis of 1264 to the last major resistance against Henry III in 1266. Battle Song takes the young squire from the tournament circuit into the Battle of Lewes; War Cry follows his new life as a knight through the collapse of Simon de Montfort’s regime and the Battle of Evesham; King’s Enemy makes him a defeated rebel and fugitive before the long Siege of Kenilworth.

The trilogy places ideas of chivalry under sustained pressure. Adam wants honour, land and a recognised place in noble society, but civil war repeatedly forces him to choose between loyalty, survival and political necessity. Henry III, Simon de Montfort and the future Edward I provide the historical struggle around a personal story of advancement, dispossession and the cost of taking sides.
