Construction of Stonehenge

The earliest known monument at Stonehenge consisted of a circular earthwork and pits created around 3000 BC. Later builders transported bluestones from Wales and erected the much larger sarsen settings associated with the site today.

Construction required quarrying, transport, timber engineering, coordinated labour and repeated planning over many generations. Its alignments and surrounding monuments suggest that seasonal gatherings and relationships with the dead were important.

Circle of Days offers a fictional explanation centred on a priestess's vision and the difficult alliance needed to move and raise the stones.
