Siegfried Sassoon was a British poet and army officer whose decorated service on the Western Front was followed by a public protest against continuation of the First World War. Sent to Craiglockhart War Hospital, he influenced Wilfred Owen and later wrote poetry and memoirs exposing the violence, grief and social divisions of wartime experience.
