Muhammad al-Nasir

Muhammad al-Nasir was Almohad caliph from 1199 to 1213, ruling territories across North Africa and al-Andalus. He assembled a major army against the Christian kingdoms of Iberia but suffered a decisive defeat at the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212.

The loss did not immediately destroy Almohad power, but it accelerated political fragmentation and weakened the dynasty’s authority. His defeat is important not simply as a Christian triumph but as a turning point whose consequences unfolded over several decades.
