Don John of Austria

Don John of Austria was the illegitimate son of Charles V and a major Habsburg naval commander. He suppressed the Morisco revolt in Granada and commanded the Holy League fleet at the battle of Lepanto in 1571.

Don John of Austria also held the offices or ranks of Governor of the Spanish Netherlands. Don John of Austria belonged to the House of Habsburg and operated within Spain. Don John of Austria was born in Regensburg and died in Namur.
