Historical person

Camillus

Camillus was a Roman general and statesman of the early Republic who became a semi-legendary figure in later tradition. He was credited with the conquest of Veii and with restoring Rome after the Gallic sack, though the surviving stories mix history with patriotic legend.

In non-fiction, Camillus is discussed in Livy’s History of Rome. Livy’s History of Rome approaches the subject through political ambition and government, court politics and dynastic power, and social change and the pressures of ordinary life.
