Aaron Burr was an American lawyer, soldier and politician who served as the third vice president of the United States from 1801 to 1805. His political career was damaged after he killed Alexander Hamilton in an 1804 duel, and he was later tried and acquitted of treason over an alleged scheme in the western territories.
