Yuan Dynasty
1271–1368 CE
Kublai Khan proclaimed the Yuan dynasty in 1271 and completed the conquest of the Southern Song in 1279. His court governed a vast and diverse empire from Dadu, the city later known as Beijing.
The administration drew on Mongol, Chinese, Central Asian and other officials and maintained extensive diplomatic and commercial links. Social and legal distinctions reflected both imperial policy and the legacy of conquest.
