Brighton, summer 1968. Producer Talbot Kydd keeps his sexuality secret, writer Elfrida Wing tries to hide an alcohol problem and creative paralysis, and actress Anny Viklund discovers that her past has attracted unwelcome American attention. Against the colour and optimism of late-1960s popular culture, their separate evasions begin to collide. The novel treats the film set as a temporary world in which performance and identity become difficult to separate.
