Gabriel’s Moon
In 1960 travel writer Gabriel Dax arrives in the newly independent Congo and unexpectedly secures an interview with Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba. Lumumba tells him that foreign powers want him dead and names men he believes are involved. After Gabriel returns to London, the interview attracts the attention of people who are far more interested in intelligence work than journalism.
Gabriel is drawn into a sequence of seemingly minor assignments by the enigmatic MI6 officer Faith Green. Trips across Europe, suspicious surveillance and competing interest from American intelligence turn him from observer into participant. At the same time, his investigation of the childhood fire that killed his mother begins to expose another network of secrets, making espionage and memory equally dangerous sources of uncertainty.
