In 1417, the Hundred Years War rages. After the great English victory at Agincourt, Henry V launches an invasion of Normandy. John Page is on the run, outlawed for killing his cousin in a duel. Page joins the English army as a man-at-arms to escape the gallows. A talented poet and brave soldier, he falls in love with Constanza, a beautiful Castilian spy. Together they must survive a dangerous mission to Paris to contact the king's new ally, the Duke of Burgundy. Along the way Page is captured by the Baron of Rougemont, an insane leper who delights in torturing his prisoners. After escaping this hellish ordeal, he is rewarded with lands by King Henry.
