The Navajo presents the history of the Diné from their development in the Southwest through Spanish, Mexican and United States rule. It examines pastoralism, farming, weaving, family and ceremonial life, as well as exchange and conflict with neighbouring peoples.
The book gives particular attention to Kit Carson’s campaign, the Long Walk to Bosque Redondo and the treaty that allowed the Diné to return to part of their homeland. It then follows economic and political change into the modern Navajo Nation.
