The Lost Outlaw

by Paul Fraser Collard Book 8 in the Jack Lark series.

4.4(687)

Louisiana, 1863. Jack Lark leaves the battlefield behind and takes work guarding a valuable wagon train carrying cotton through Texas toward Mexico. The job promises distance from organised war, but the route is threatened by violent outlaws, divided loyalties and employers whose ambitions are almost as dangerous as the men hunting them.

The novel moves along the western edge of the American Civil War, where wartime commerce, borderlands and frontier violence overlap. Jack’s military discipline is tested in a landscape governed less by army regulations than by private power, gun law and the constant need to judge who can be trusted on the road south.
