The Eye of the Tiger

Harry Fletcher has withdrawn from his former life of violence and runs a charter-fishing boat from the fictional island of St Mary’s in the Indian Ocean. The quiet existence suits him until a group of clients arrives with detailed knowledge of his past and instructions that make refusal dangerous. Their objective is an underwater treasure associated with the Great Mogul diamond, and they require Harry’s seamanship, diving experience and familiarity with the Mozambique Channel.

The search brings him into conflict with criminals prepared to use deception, torture and murder to secure the prize. Wrecks, reefs and changing currents create hazards that cannot be negotiated by force, while the people around Harry prove harder to read than the sea. His attempt to remain detached collapses as greed and attraction draw him deeper into the expedition. The Eye of the Tiger is a contemporary adventure rather than historical fiction, using legends of lost treasure as the foundation for a story about a man who discovers that changing his surroundings has not freed him from the skills or enemies of his earlier life.
