Nathen Amin traces the Tudor story backwards from Henry VII’s victory at Bosworth to the family’s Welsh origins. The narrative begins with the Tudors of Penmynydd and follows Owen Tudor’s relationship with the widowed queen Catherine of Valois, the advancement of their sons Edmund and Jasper, and the marriage of Edmund to Margaret Beaufort. Their son Henry grows up amid the Wars of the Roses, spends years in exile and ultimately returns to challenge Richard III for the English crown.

Alongside dynastic politics, the book examines the Welsh prophetic traditions that allowed supporters to present Henry as a long-awaited deliverer and heir to an ancient British past. Amin connects genealogy, Welsh identity, exile, patronage and military opportunity to explain how a family from comparatively modest Welsh beginnings acquired a credible claim to rule England. The result is a study of the making of Henry Tudor before he became Henry VII.
