Sepulchre

In 1891, Léonie Vernier leaves Paris with her brother Anatole for their aunt’s estate near Carcassonne. At the Domaine de la Cade she discovers a ruined sepulchre, a strange deck of tarot cards and evidence of an older tragedy. Music, spiritualism and family rivalry draw her towards a dangerous secret that the household has tried to contain.

In 2007, American researcher Meredith Martin arrives to investigate the life of composer Claude Debussy and to trace her own ancestry. Her work gradually converges with Léonie’s story, revealing how violence and obsession have been preserved within the estate. The novel uses a dual timeline to connect fin-de-siècle France with a modern genealogical mystery, combining Gothic atmosphere, historical detail and supernatural uncertainty.
