Citadel

Carcassonne, 1942. Nineteen-year-old Sandrine Vidal is drawn into a clandestine Resistance network known as Citadel. Its members carry messages, shelter fugitives and gather intelligence while German occupation and collaboration make every neighbour, checkpoint and routine journey potentially dangerous. Sandrine’s relationship with Raoul is inseparable from the risks imposed by the struggle.

The Resistance story is linked to an ancient manuscript that several factions are determined to find, bringing the trilogy’s supernatural history into the violence of the Second World War. As arrests and betrayals close around the group, ordinary women assume responsibilities that can lead to torture or execution. The novel presents resistance as collective work built from secrecy, trust and repeated acts of courage rather than a single heroic gesture.
