During the winter of 1777–1778, young British soldier Sam Gilpin serves in occupied Philadelphia after seeing his brother killed. The British army enjoys the captured city while George Washington’s troops endure the winter at Valley Forge, but the civilian population remains divided between Loyalists and Patriots.
