Codename Greyman
After losing his brother during the Dunkirk campaign, Frank Graham is recruited into the Special Operations Executive and sent into occupied France under the codename Greyman. Working with Resistance networks around Lyon, he takes part in sabotage and clandestine operations while trying to evade the Gestapo apparatus headed locally by Klaus Barbie. The missions place loyalty, secrecy and personal attachment under constant pressure.
The story broadens from covert activity in France to the Vercors uprising and the liberation struggle of 1944. Frank Graham and the agents closest to him are fictional, while Barbie and the principal wartime events appear under their historical identities. McKay uses those documented settings to frame a thriller about betrayal, loss and the personal cost of clandestine warfare.
