Jacquie Rogers

This entry is for Jacquie Rogers, the Roman Britain mystery author, not the American writer of Western historical romance who shares the same name. Rogers was born in Britain, grew up in Australia and lived in several countries before returning to the United Kingdom. Before becoming a novelist, she worked in fields including advertising and university teaching. She now lives in the Malvern Hills and has also published short fiction in crime, science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy collections.

Rogers is best known for the Quintus Valerius Mysteries, set in third-century Roman Britain during the reign of Septimius Severus. Beginning with The Governor’s Man, the series follows senior military investigator Quintus Valerius, his British associate Tiro and the healer Julia Aureliana as they investigate crimes involving imperial politics, frontier warfare and divided cultural loyalties. Later novels include The Carnelian Phoenix, The Loyal Centurion and The Bath Curse. Her fiction combines murder investigations with archaeological research, Roman military history and settings including Londinium, Vindolanda and Aquae Sulis.
